This is exactly what I’m talking about when I say beware of predators. This innocent man and his daughter were abducted and held for ransom after answering one of those bogus emails stating you’ve won millions.

Don’t fall prey on the internet to this type of person! Be aware of who you are communicating with.. don’t give out personal information on the internet. Practice Safe SMEX (Social Media Experience)

When I started doing some reading about predators online and thinking about the demographics on my Facebook account, I decided that I would try to bring to awareness about this to young girls. I have nieces, grandchildren of good friends and others online that could benefit from the information. Knowledge can go a long way!
Little did I realize, when I posted this article, a dear friend’s nearly 90-year-old mother would respond confirming that she’d read it. Then I got to thinking about how the elderly could also become victims of predators.
Having a background in outreach and a love for social media I felt that my New Year’s resolution could be bringing awareness to young women/girls, as well as, the elderly on how to be cautious on the internet. Which evolved into a term I coined “Safe SMEX.” (Safe Social Media Experience)
My experience with resolutions, here in my hometown of Kansas City, Missouri, regarding myself have been extremely lame. I never seem to keep them, just like most of the people. But I knew if it was a resolution I could get my arms around and believe in deeply that it would stick throughout 2012.
Feeling it’s a good thing to start this New Year, I resolve to help build awareness and share content that could help save anyone that might possibly fall a victim to predators on the internet.
